Alongside the booming of health and personal care industries is the proliferation of assisted living careers which will give flesh to the mandates of the law with respect to the adult home care and assisted living communities. Assisted living communities are the key to make personal and adult care more accessible and easily availed of by the senior members of the population. In truth, some young adults are considering of assisted living careers as an option. They may as well be looking for some avenues by which they could share their services to the elderly in particular and to the country in general. Careers such as these offer more opportunities for learning and professional advancement, a chance to share one’s self unselfishly for other people and a channel to release one’s creativity and dynamism in a positive outlet like taking care of older people, providing emotional support, and other activities which can be of help in easing the tedium of life and discomfort brought about by old age. Moreover, by living with the older people, you would learn a lot from their experiences, experiences which are products of long years of hardships, triumphs and victories in life. Precious thoughts from them are worth keeping as a compass in the later part of your life. Their stories may be the stories of your parents who just like them are also facing the inevitabilities of old age.
No doubt, assisted living careers can be your means of steady income as you also need to live. However, the sense of fulfilment and happiness brought by being able to serve other people and by sharing a part of yourself are things that cannot be bartered by anything material. That I think is far more important than any monetary consideration.
